Revealed: US Traveler Insights To Help You Prepare For Peak Season

Apr 3, 2017 | Expert Advice

At TripAdvisor Rentals, we’re always trying to help our owners get more bookings. With peak season fast approaching, it’s time to get prepared. Here’s how to make sure your listing attracts as much interest as possible. Hint: know your audience!

We’ve analyzed bookings by US travelers from the last 12 months to uncover some fascinating facts and figures. Where are they going? What amenities are they looking for? When are the most popular times to go on vacation?

Now, we’ll reveal how you can use these US traveler insights to help prepare your listing(s) and rental for peak season.

What Are US Travelers Searching For?

It’s no surprise to see private pools and hot tubs in high demand, but Wi-Fi takes the top spot. If you don’t currently provide Wi-Fi, you’re missing the amenity guests care about most.

TOP TIPS

Provide Wi-Fi. Travelers expect Wi-Fi to be available everywhere.

Share ALL your rental’s amenities, even the most obvious ones. If you don’t, a traveler who filters their results might not see your listing.

Include popular features in your listing title. Instead of “Modern condo”, try “Modern condo with Wi-Fi.”

The US Traveler Timeline

It pays to know that most travelers book their holidays just after Christmas and into January, but significant numbers of travelers book throughout February and March. Look out for the lull in June, when everyone’s busy enjoying the vacations they booked earlier in the year!

TOP TIPS

Update your calendar regularly. Travelers enter their travel dates to find available rentals. If your calendar isn’t up to date, you might not show up in these searches.

Get smart with seasonal rates. Time your offers to entice more travelers.

Where Are US Travelers Going?

Some of the most popular destinations for US travelers in 2016.

Many travelers are staying in the US for their vacations, with destinations in Florida and Tennessee topping the list of popular US locations. Don’t forget, your rental doesn’t have to be in or even right next to a popular city or tourist attraction to be attractive to travelers—guests are often willing to travel a little further if it means staying in a great place (like yours!). Here are some tips for using this info to your advantage…

TOP TIPS

Add nearby cities and towns to your listing title. If your rental is near a popular destination, say so! Highlight it your listing title or description. Ex. Incredible Orlando condo or Incredible vacation home outside Orlando

Mention nearby attractions. Let your surroundings help sell your place! Whether it’s in your listing title or description, be sure to let travelers know what attractions are near your rental and how long it takes to get there.
